Sales of Special Ice Cream Flavor to Benefit Live Oak Public Library
SAVANNAH, GA, Tuesday, December 28, 2010— On New Year’s Day, Leopold’s Ice Cream will honor Paula Deen—Savannah’s own “Rose.” Paula Deen is this year’s Grand Marshal of the internationally acclaimed Tournament of Roses hosted annually in Pasadena, California. Leopold’s will celebrate Paula’s involvement in this American Tradition by featuring a limited quantity of its homemade Rose Petal Cream Ice Cream.
The theme for this year’s 122nd Tournament of Roses is “Building Dreams, Friendship & Memories” – an ideal that has rung true for Leopold’s since 1919. In line with the that theme, all sales of Rose Petal Ice Cream on New Year’s Day will be donated in Paula Deen’s name to benefit the Summer Reading Program of Live Oak Public Libraries.
This past summer, nearly 13,000 children and teens from Chatham, Effingham and Liberty Counties in Southeast Georgia participated in the Summer Reading Program. In addition, more than 245,000 children’s books were checked out. The program objective is to keep children actively reading over the long school break.
“No matter the weather, there’s no better combination than reading a good book while enjoying Leopold’s Ice Cream,” said Christian Kruse, library director, Live Oak Public Libraries. Leopold’s Ice Cream is located in the historic district at 212 East Broughton Street and will be open on New Year’s day from 12 Noon to 11:00 PM.
