Does ice cream bring a smile to your face? It did today for the children over at Backus Children’s Hospital.
Leopold’s Ice Cream served up a scoop of ice cream to every child who participates in the ‘Reach Out and Read’ program. The program, which provides books to children under age five, encourages early literacy.
Mary Leopold, one of the owners of Leopold Ice Cream, said, “Kids like ice cream. I think children of all ages like ice cream, so it generally is something they enjoy, but i think we are the ones that get greater joy.”
The program is based on the idea that children who live with books are much more likely to read on schedule.
